Over the past decade, Manitoba established itself as a national leader in protecting payday lending consumers. The clients of the Public Interest Law Centre have played a significant role in leading the national campaign for reduced rates for vulnerable consumers.
On May 2nd 2018, the contributions of Manitoba consumers, academic and public interest lawyers will be celebrated with the launch of two books on the subject of financial inclusion. PILC laywers, Katrine Dilay and Byron Williams are the authors of one of the chapters in “Payday Lending in Canada in a Global Context: A Mature Industry with Chronic Challenges”. Their chapter focuses on the Canadian regulatory environment and notes Manitoba’s leadership on many of these important issues.
